State's arguments in gay marriage case due Feb. 27

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) Opening arguments from Montana's attorney general are due Feb. 27 in his appeal of a federal court order that struck down the state's gay marriage ban.

Attorney General Tim Fox has said it's his sworn duty to uphold Montana's Constitution, which voters amended in 2004 with a definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

Stenehjem: Higher ed board broke open meetings law

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEN'-jehm) says the Board of Higher Education broke the law when it asked the public to leave an open meeting.

The board instructed the public to leave the meeting held during a July retreat. Board members planned to discuss problems affecting the group and ways to improve their performance.
